ReBabel Quests: Event 1
We're looking for people to try out ReBabel for a month and give us their feedback! People who use the platform the most or submit the most feedback or issue reports* win prizes!
*What counts from feedback and issue reports is decided at our discretion.

First place is built around the JLPT. In the US the test fee is $135. We pay it as reimbursement of a registration you have already made, and if you would rather have something else, you can take equivalent value as cash or a gift card.
One piece of timing worth knowing: December JLPT registration in the US opens on August 18 and closes around September 16, which is before we announce winners. So if you are planning to take the December test, make sure you register before it closes. First prize can reimburse your test fee afterwards, and if you prefer, you can take equivalent value instead.
If the exam is not your plan, $135 goes a long way on study supplies: Genki I and II with both workbooks, a notebook, a pencil, and an eraser.
What it is
For the month study on ReBabel the way you normally would. If something breaks, confuses you, or is missing, tell us! At the end, everyone who participated gets a short survey. When the window closes we look at who contributed the most over the month and hand out the three prizes.
You do not have to go hunting for issues or submit a lot of feedback to take part. Study, and let us know when you have an opinion or a problem.
How to take part

Sign in to your ReBabel account and join the event from the popup that appears. A free account is all you need, and signing up from this page joins you automatically.

Tell us what you run into. Bug reports and feedback both count, and it does not matter which way you send them.

The only thing we need is to know which account is yours. Anything sent from inside the app carries that automatically. If you email us, include the email address on your ReBabel account so we can credit it to you. If you post in Discord, do not post that email publicly; send it to support@rebabel.org instead so we can match your account. We reserve the right to make decisions about what feedback and issue reports are valid and will contribute to the competition.

How standing works
Winners are chosen by contribution, not by chance. There is no drawing and no random pick. Three things feed your standing:
- Genuine use of ReBabel during the window: study sessions, Practice Translate, conjugation drills, worksheets, building sets. Real studying, not sessions left running.
- Issue reports and feedback we accept.
- Completing the end survey.
We do not publish the exact weighting, and we are not going to, because a published formula turns a feedback competition into a scoreboard game. The rule you can rely on is simple. The more you contribute, the stronger your standing.
Everything that comes in is read by a human. Credit is at our discretion, and decisions are final.
What counts
Two kinds of thing earn credit, and they are worth the same to us:
- A bug or a broken behavior we can understand or reproduce.
- Feedback with reasoning behind it: what is not working for you, what is missing, what you would change and why.
Rough writing is fine, and you do not need to sound technical. Specifics are what help: the page you were on, what you were trying to do, and what happened instead. "This is bad" earns nothing. "The review screen said 10 out of 9 correct after I retried a card" earns a lot.
When two people report the same thing, the first report gets the credit. Low-effort or fabricated reports get no credit.
The rules

One account per person, and one person per account. Duplicate accounts void your standing.

Do not automate, script, or artificially inflate your activity, and do not attempt to deceive any metric used to determine standing. That includes leaving sessions running unattended, scripted or bulk activity, and fabricated or copied reports. Violations can mean disqualification.

Bug reports and feedback count when they reach us during the competition window through the app, support@rebabel.org, or our Discord, as long as we can match them to your ReBabel account.

Play fair with the platform: no automated scanners, no load or stress testing, and never attempt to access another user's data or account. If you think you have found a security issue, report it privately, by email to support@rebabel.org or through Report a problem in the app. Do not post it in Discord or anywhere else public. Privately reported security issues receive full credit. Any testing must stay within your own account on www.rebabel.org, with no automated tooling, no attempts to modify or delete data beyond your own, and nothing that degrades the service for others. Anything beyond that is out of scope and grounds for disqualification.

Winners must complete the end survey before receiving a prize.

We may adjust or end the competition in response to abuse, and may substitute any prize with one of equivalent value. Decisions are final.

Only participants who join the event in the app are eligible for prizes. You can join at any time during the window, and everything you contribute during the window counts.
Eligibility
A free ReBabel account is all you need. The free tier is fully sufficient to win: everything the competition asks of you is reachable without paying, and paying for ReBabel never improves your standing.
The competition is open worldwide. If you are under 18, get a parent or guardian's permission before entering. The ReBabel team and development contributors are not eligible.
The survey at the end
After the window closes, everyone who meaningfully used ReBabel during the month gets a short survey by email. It takes about five minutes, and it is the part of this we care about most. Completing it strengthens your standing, and winners are required to complete it before prizes are delivered.
If you win
Winners are announced on September 29 and contacted at the email address on their ReBabel account. Reply within 14 days to claim your prize. If we do not hear back in that time, the prize passes to the next person in standing. Any taxes on a prize are the winner's responsibility.
Privacy
By taking part, you let us connect your account activity to your competition standing. We may quote feedback you send, anonymously. We do not publish anyone's scores or ranking.
